Includes up to 12 home visits in the first 6 weeks, as well as a prenatal visit. This means expanded assistance with breastfeeding, baby weights, exams, discussion of scheduling, sleep assistance, newborn behavior counseling and help with integration of a new baby into your life. Recommended for first-time parents, those with concerns about bringing home a new baby, those with a history of difficulty breastfeeding, or anyone else who wants the peace of mind of having help whenever you need it.
A home visit done before your baby is born. This is a chance for us to get to know each other, and for me to understand what your specific goals are with respect to your baby’s first month. We will review the parents’ medical histories, current pregnancy issues, past pregnancy issues, past breastfeeding challenges, and any specific concerns you have. We will also discuss what to expect with delivery, newborn behaviors, and the challenges of the first few days of life.
This visit is usually done 1-2 days after returning home from the hospital or birthing center. In the case of a home birth, it generally takes place the day after the baby is born. The visit includes a close exam of the new baby, and a lot of discussion about everything from schedule and sleep to feeding patterns and elimination. I will help you with a feeding and make any necessary adjustments to the baby’s latch. We will discuss self-care, family care and a plan for the days ahead.
Each of these visits is generally scheduled at the time of the previous visit. We will follow your baby’s weight carefully, work on any breastfeeding issues, discuss any other concerns, and I will always perform a thorough exam to make sure that no problems have emerged. We will continue to discuss self-care, family care, sleep issues, scheduling and any other concerns surrounding the change in your family structure.
In this unusual time, we may opt to do some of the visits by video conferencing. This visit type is similar to a follow-up visit but is done remotely for issues that can be taken care of in this fashion. Many discussions about sleep, breastfeeding issues, behavior concerns, etc. can be taken care of by phone and video conferencing thus decreasing the need for personal contact. A remote consultation is is conducted in place of a recommended home visit only when appropriate.
These visits are for those families who are in need of help with breastfeeding only. We will focus exclusively on the feeding history, elimination patterns, growth and any problems you are having with feeding. I will watch a feed, adjust the latch, recommend treatments for common breast complaints, and work with you to reach your breastfeeding goals.
